Fourteen Prosecutors Fired in Russian Gambling Probe

The Federal Security Service (FSB) in Russia is investigating illegal casino operations across 15 cities.

The FSB have dismissed 14 corrupt prosecutors who protected large numbers of illegal gambling outlets across Russia.

It was found that the gambling groups bribed the prosecutors in exchange for protection. The FSB believe that the gambling ring made up to €13million in a single month.

A spokesman for the FSB said, “We had to dismiss 14 corrupt prosecutors. Our main aim is to entirely eliminate corruption from all security rankings in the country.”

One of the accused prosecutors, former region deputy prosecutor Alexander Ignatenko, was arrested in southern Poland last month after fleeing Russia last year. It is thought that he took bribes of €1.18 million for ignoring the illegal casino operations. Russia has requested his extradition.
